front salisbury diff removal

I,m running into a problem removing the diff from my front axle. Is it true i need an axle spreader. i was assuming i only needed that at the rear. please help

Never done a front sals, but if it is anything like a front 60 you either need the spreader or you need to pry it out.

i've got all the other stuff off and the axle on stands. allso the halfshaft, bearings cv joints, brakes, swivel housing etc, etc, out/off. so now i would like some movement. so prybar you say. Good to know that i can go neantherthal on it now.

Ummm that does not look like Salisbury, looks like the standard rover diff

If it was a Salisbury it would have a diff cover like a traditional axle and not a complete 3rd like you have.

you definitely don't need any spreader tp get a sals rear diff out. they fall right out every time. Never seen a salisbury front axle in the 100's of early defenders I have dealt with so not able to help.

The front salisbury arn't that popular, even over here. they fetch good money (i've had one on an old 110)

Halfshafts and CV's are no stronger than normal though... they share the same CV joint depending on 23 or 32 spline shaft.

The chrome swivel is stronger on a salisbury axle though, although a "normal" one will fit right on.

I've got the parts list here for the salisbury 110 front axle here, if anyone wants a copy (.pdf) fling me yer email.
