Front Propshaft Seal

Is there a seal or cap on the front end of the propshaft to prevent the grease from slinging out? I was replacing my u-joints today and noticed that this cap is missing from the shaft, so any grease I shoot in there is just slinging out. And just to be clear, I'm talking about the shaft, not the u-joints.

Mine has a rubber boot on the larger shaft that "swipes" the smaller shaft as the two slide together. No metal though.

Dennis, is that on the shaft itself, or on the end?

It's on the big shaft & it has a locater ring (part of the rubber swipe) to keep it in place on the lager/outer shaft. The outer shaft has the zirk fitting on it & the internal spines for the short shaft that has the U joint yoke. Yes it's on the end but it covers the juction's were the to splined shafts join. I'd say it's (the rubber boot) about an 1-1/2" long

Right. I've got that rubber boot/sleeve, too. What appears to be missing is something covering the very end of the prop shaft, like a cap that holds in the grease.

Mine have that hole too, I always thought it was a relief port for excess grease. Mine was 2 years old 6500 miles on it when purchased, I doubt the PO removed anything.
