Front output flange

Is there a trick to removing the nut that holds the front output flange on the T/C? Am I just not trying hard enough.

It is meant to be tight, try harder. Impact gun is the easiest....

Put two nuts on the studs, insert prybar to lock it down (I do NOT advise locking the diff and putting on the e-brake as a way to hold it) and hit her with a big breaker bar of impact gun.

So yes, you are just not trying hard enough.

You guys are fast.

I like the idea of not using the E-brake and diff lock...... That is what I was doing and didn't want to really yard on it.

I think the shop manual says to use a specialized rover tool which bolts on to a few of the bolts and keeps it from spinning...

I just use an impact gun....


Check out this pic... its someone's makeshift tool for the diff flange.. something could be similar for the TC;

The engine puts out 200 lb-ft * 3.6 * 3.2 = 2300 lb-ft.....

You are not going to break the t. case. Diff lock on, low range, 1st gear, hand brake on..... Breaker bar.

All done. You should have seen me standing on the breaker bar with my hands on door frame..... Quite the balancing act.
