Front Axle Identification

I have a Disco 1 front axle on my LR90. Need to order CV's, swivel balls etc but cannot go by the chassis number or year that parts suppliers normally quote.
It's not easy to read, but I thing the axle ID is (maybe) EL23801A. Does anyone recognize this number and best way to be sure I order the correct parts?
Eric

Disco 1 axles are all the same.

Okay Briggs, let not get crazy here... North American question in a North American forum.... One "assumes" we are only talking about the 300TDI era Disco 1s.

I suppose. Would be a horrible thing to do. 10 spline and 32 spline all in one easy to break package.

Thanks for the quick input guys. And not surprisingly this LR90 is made up of parts from Blighty. So still wondering what axle I likely have.

See here for axle number:

It should be 2 numbers then "L" then 5 numbers and "A"

What is wrong and what are you trying to fix? CV joints and swivels is a major part of the cost of the whole things. If it is a 200TDI era Disco, you might be better just getting something else as that was a messy time in the Land Rover parts bin, making finding parts complicated.

Many times with these Bitsa trucks, you need to pull it apart to see what is there. The axle casing serial number may not mean anything as you can play Lego with parts from other axles.

What do the drive flanges look like? Is there a plastic cap, or are they one piece steel?

The CV's are clicking on lock. There is some pitting on the Teflon coated balls. Not too long ago while wading maybe some water got in but as it is a one shot grease system until pulled apart I cannot judge, Probably did not help as the PO painted the axle and balls which may have damaged to seals.
Then there is the question of which balls to go for. I have always preferred the hard chrome, but now there is Teflon, and Rovahfarm quote tungsten.

Plastic cap should be the later style then. The same as sold here in North America, which is good as parts are common and aftermarket support is good. The earlier ones have the stub shaft integral with the flange.

If you are off roading it, it might be the time to to consider after market CVs.

I would personally change to oil in the CVs as that helps prevent the damage that happens when wading. You know the seals are bad before going off road...

There has been talk about new aftermarket swivel balls failing. I'm not sure if it really got anywhere as to how common was the problem.
