Freelander inlet manifold
First, let me appologize for straying from Defenders (in addition to my D-90, LR3, Lightweight, TR6, and 928S I also have a 2003 Freelander SE3 - and actually like it quite a bit).
I've experienced the common problem of the butterfly valves in the inlet manifold breaking/coming loose. I pulled the VIS motor off and confirmed. Research has shown that the manifold is a sealed unit with no way to do any repair inside. A new replacement part is about $1K!! I pulled it off the car and found what looks like to me an access panel to the valves that is screwed/glued on. After removing the screws I found that the panel is going to require a LOT of coaxing to come off. So I have two questions for anyone who has experience with this:
1) Is it worth the effort trying to get that cover off? I.E. will I be able to repair what's inside?
2) If I just pull the butterfly valves out through the VIS motor opening and put it back in will the vehicle run OK?
The first two pictures are of the panel. The last is through the VIS motor opening pointing out the part that is shaking around.
Sorry again for getting away from Defenders, but I'd really appreciate some expertise.
