Found in 300tdi Oil Pan...what is it?

Hey folks,
Here is a game I love to play...what was the source of this destructive bit of metal. In all honesty, I'm looking for your expertise to tell me if I need to tear this engine down or not. I found this bit of metal in the sump of my 300tdi oil pan. it is steel and has the letter R cast into it. There appears to be another letter following it...possible O as in "FRONT" but I have no idea.

Which of you very experienced Rover Junkies can tell me what it's source was?

Thanks for looking...and hopefully solving the mystery

Floor sweepings placed in the engine by striking British workers as sabotage.

Suspect this is just debris that made it's way into the engine and settled in the oil pan where it sat unnoticed until now.
It is too large to be sucked into the oil system, so it couldn't cause any harm.

The only concern is what happened to the other 25 letters???

Turn the dime over, maybe it is of a collectible year and mint mark.

I think the real question here is...how the hell did you find that little piece?

I mean, were you sifting through your oil change pan?
Or do you have a magnetic plug?

I had a hole in the oil pan and took it off to weld it. While I had it off, I was cleaning it up[ and found that chunk and a small rock at the bottom of the pan...who knows. I'll pull the rocker cover when I get it off the hoist and drop a picture of the damage in this thread.

Thanks everybody!
