Found 52mm Generic Tach - Anyone Try One

Purchased one of these Generic Electronic Tachs last night.
Price was only $38.
Anyone ever try one of these?

Electronic Tach 6000 RPM 2 1 16" for VW Bug Ghia Sand Rail Buggy | eBay

Cheap but it's going to take 3 weeks to get those from India

Are you using this with the OM617? I'm leaning towards a TinyTach for mine but would prefer a round tach to match the other VDO ones I plan on.

This is going on a 200TDI,
BUT
I am looking at a bolt in alternator for the OM617 that has the "W" lead for a T, so it may work in your OM617 as well.

Is it through dial lit? If not, then the VDO Vision, 4000 rpm is a much nicer choice.

Cool - let me know what you find out on that alternator. I haven't wired it up or bought the TinyTach yet so would be a great time.

It is simple to add a W terminal to any alternator.

Looking not only for the rev counter for diesel (low rev max) and a turbo boost gauge...would like the same size as the stock....what should be the boost gauge numbers go to....I know there isn't a huge amount of boost but most gauges show huge amounts of boost...

Appears to be based on the light behind the dial, see pictures in link.
Will know more when it arrives.
Looking for a single unit, for use with multiple engines.
The 4K gauge is not a good option for the high revving OM617.

VDO does 6 k as well. They are just a lot better to use in the dark with the through lit dial and the lit pointer.

Some old crappy photos, but you get the idea.

Didn't know that. Good to know - might have to have mine rebuilt as I don't know what shape it is.

The 120 amp alternator I found will fit right into the stock OM617 housing and is for a later Mercedes, so has the W terminal fitted already and provides double the amperage over the units originally fitted.

eGauges is a good source.
Equipped the OM617 Powered 110 using their VDO black face gauges.
Thanks, John B.
