I also was told not to run synthetic gear oil in my front diff with an ARB air locker but that it was OK in the rear diff with the true trac. I just run regular gear oil in both to make it simple.
specifically regarding the transmission -
I have 3 quarts of Amsoil Manual Syncromesh trans fluid that somebody gave me a few years ago I'm going to try in the R380 tomorrow, i'll post back my thoughts. I've also had good luck (with my TJ's NV3550) with Pennzoil's Syncromesh fluid too. They seem comparable to the MTL/Texaco MT85 or whatever the number was.

What about a good marine-grade grease (bearing grease) in the swivels? I'm currently running oil and its not leaking, I'm just curious what people thought.
