flexible stereo antenna recommendations

Anyone have a recommendation for a short (rubber) flexible am/fm antenna to replace the stock one on a '95 d90 DW? Radio shack has one and even Kragen/O'Reilly's, but they are pretty cheap.

They suck. Tried it and threw it up. You will not get the same reception. Get a straight steel whip from autozone, etc (not the protracted type) and it'll be flexible enough and yet give you better reception.

BTW, if you have a metal raised air intake and the antennae is close to that, relocate the antennae. trust me.

What's the reason for the whip? As Overlander said, the reception is pretty poor. I installed a power unit in mine and while it was a little more money, I really like that when the radio (or truck) is off, the antenna retracts down. I especially like it for when I am wheeling as I can still listen to a CD or iPod but the antenna remains down

antenna

a little off subject. Is the defender 90 stock radio antenna power retractable? I just put a new stereo in and the antenna does not move after replacing stock tape deck. IE do you have to manually put the antenna up and down or do I have a bad connection or motor?

Atlantic British would be a good place to start.

I removed my antenna from the wing, and took a inside one. You can stick it on the windshield underneath the rear view mirror. You can see it on the picture. Works great and out of the way!

The flexible ones start to look ghetto after a while. They start to bend after a period of time. I'd say stick with the stock manual retractable one. Pull it up when you need it and push it down when you need it out of the way.

And, no, the stock antenna is not power retractable

Just wanted something a little more durable and less tempting to wire-scupltor hoodlums. Was the power unit hard to install?

No, the power unit was very simple. I found a Metra power antenna on Amazon with specs (mounting hole diameter and antenna mast length) similar to the stock manual antenna and then fished the unit under the fender (this is the hardest part as it is a little tight with the brake and clutch MC right there. Hook up a power, ground and the lead from the stereo along with the antenna signal cable and voila! I would say that the process takes about 15 minutes longer than installing a non-power unit.

Bringing this up. How hard is it to replace the antenna, as I will be replacing them? Can you guide me to the steps. Thank you.
