fixing a bent chrome moly track rod

Can this be done and does it weaken the metal?
I hit a very large rock, very hard - obviously.

I would think so... I fixed a RoverTym Stainless Steel Track rod with heat and it lasted a few years.

Yes.

But, it depends on whether it is 4340 or 4130 or similar. If it is 4340, then it is probably heat treated. This means if you use heat to straighten it you will lose a lot of strenth. If it is 4130, doesn't really matter. I would be really surprised if any vendor went to the expense and effort to use the 4340. I only have one piece of that on my whole rig.

If it is a straight one, I would just pound/press a piece of thin wall chomo over it and use that to straighten it. Or make a new one. It's pretty easy.

Made it further than half of the other guys, but the Hammers won.

Then install a track-rod guard

Decided to order a new offset track rod from Keith@Rovertracks and swap my pinion/diff/track rod guard from another vehicle. Never liked that flashy chrome anyway.
If somebody wants the chrome-moly HD one (and you'll have to straighten it) just pay for the shipping and it's yours.
