Fiberglass Repair Help

My fiberglass hardtop suffers from some of the traditional stress fractures in addition to some falling oak branch impacts.

I've never actually worked with fiberglass before, but I've done considerable research and it seems fairly simple in concept.

That being said, I'd like to ask the board for some advice to repair both structural stress fractures on the two side panels as well as spider cracks where the panels meet the cappings (and roof).

For the stress cracks i understand that I'll need to cut/ drill them out like cavities.

I'm much less confident how to handle the spider cracks. I'm guessing I'll need ot cut out those sections as well, but obviously I want to be sure that is the best course of action before I do anything stupid.

Good news is I can't mess anything up. I don't have to run the hard top, and if I somehow destroy the top completely, we'll c'est la vie.

I've attached some pictures of a sample of the problematic areas.

I really appreciate any advice!

Thanks

A follow- up about the stress crack on the side panel that runs all the way into the window.

If I repair this up to about 1cm away from the window seal, what is the value?

I'm extremely hesitant to remove the widows as I've read they are a real PITA to remove and the risk of loss on the windows and seals is high.

If it makes any difference I'm going to Line-x this when repairs are complete.

I would not worry about the spider. For the window crack, I would glue it and then glue a metal piece on the inside to reinforce it. The corner you will have to get creative and is beyond anything I have done.

You might also head to your local boat yard and see if you can find a fiberglass guy who appreciates cool cars and see if he will take a look. You never know.

Dogpilot (James) did a great write-up and an incredible job repairing his FG top. Read this:
