Fan Near Radiator Came On

I heard for the first time today what sounded like an engine fan turn on after I parked my car and removed the key. It seemed like a cooling fan near the radiator. It shut off by itself so I don't think I should be worried about it. It was also pretty hot today in Texas and I did a bunch of driving.

Its the AC condensor fan in front of your radiator. Its controlled by the ECU and can be turned on if the ECU senses the truck is hot even if the AC is not running or the truck has just been switched off but the main relay hasn't yet dropped out.

Thanks Ian, is it common for the fan to come on. Nothing I should be worried about right?

this just started happening to me last week as well...and it's been happening every day since. I've owned my 1997 Station Wagon for 12 years and this is the first time i've ever heard this fan.

Any ideas as to what i need to fix/replace?

thx!

You're running hotter than normal and your ECU is using its back up system to compensate. Check your cooling system as it sounds as though its struggling to cope.

It is basically an idiot light on a stick.

Do the cooling system checks (rad wear, does it hold pressure, leaks especially water pump weap hole etc.)
