Experience registering a 1980's 200 tdi in CO

Looking to get an older 110 and wanted to know what to expect when registering it in Denver. Emissions issues and what paperwork is required by the state/county.

Thanks,
Alex

I registered mine in El Paso County. As it was from out of state, it needed a VIN verification and a visual smog test. Got the 5 year collector plates, apparently just under the wire. As of September, it must be a 1975 or older year model to get the collector plates. I think in Denver you'll need to do a dyno smog test though.

Depends if you are importing it or buying one that is alredy imported / registered.

I might be missing a few things here and there but this will give you the idea

In state
Title
Bill of sale
ODO disclosure
Proof of insurance

Out of state
Title
Bill of sale notarized or signed under the penalty of perjury (has to be original no photo copies)
ODO disclosure
VIN verification
Proof of insurance

Fresh import never titled (be prepared for multiple trips to DMV)
Original V5 (no photo copies)
Vin verification
Bill of sale notarized or signed under the penalty of perjury (has to be original no photo copies)
ODO disclosure
Customs entry summary CBP FORM 7501
Proof of insurance
Proof of how much you paid with exchange rate, I paid by Pay Pal and just printed the receipt. You could also take a copy of the wire transfer but you need some kind of proof.

Emissions will depend on if you have a diesel, petrol, 90 or 110

It is not hard but it took several trips to the DMV each time they told me that I was missing something, after about 4 trips I got my title. If I were to do it again it would only take me 1 or 2 trips compared to 4 the first time.

Ad if it's a diesel you can take out the front driveshaft and test it "any old" Diesel emmisions testing station.
