EXPANSION tank level

Guys,

Stupid question - and after all these years I should know it. Searched the forum and did not see it.

HOW MUCH FLUID should be in the expansion tank?

I can not see any fill line or anything when looking into that tank with a flashlight. Right now my fluid can be seen, and it probably 1/4" from the bottom - and you can see it move when you rock the truck.

I seem to remember that this was supposed to be a tank that was around half. Or was I supposed to just 'see' the fluid?

I need to dig into my manual when I get home from work.

Half full is correct.

OK. Thanks.

Then I need to add some. Wonder if I can just pour some water in there. I should probably get to the store and buy the correct stuff

If you're going to put just water in it, at least make sure it's distilled water.

Ideally, mix the antifreeze of your choice with distilled water and then top off the tank.

I use Peak 50/50 premixed antifreeze. Whatever you choose, just make sure it's safe for aluminum.
