exhaust manifold bolts

In snooping around my engine compartment, I noticed one of the bolts that holds the exhaust manifold to the motor is missing (3.9 v8). Anything special about these bolts, or can I get something in particular from a hardware store? (if so, what size and type?)

Nothing special on the bolts, though I don't remember the threading. Just don't forget some anti-sieze when you put the new one in, didn't yours have the locking plates?

On many cars these bolts are typically bronze so they dont seize.

What do you suppose the chances are that your bolt is not missing, but rather has been broken off?

Rod, thats a good point. The locking plate is still there, which I thought was puzzling. Next step would be to check. tnx!

The bolts that I get from the dealer are not expensive and are bronze.

The bolts on mt 110 are steel & I plan on replacing wih hardware store bolts that are a little longer. I am also loosing the the locking tabs & going with lock washers. I have one infront of me now if you need anymore info.

I'm sorry - the nuts are bronze - the "bolts" are actually studs. You can get a kit of high-strength stainless (made by NRP) for the rover v8 from Totally Stainless if you want to replace everything with super-spiffy stuff.

Wow, looks like LR was pretty inconsistant on these . Steel Bolts, Bronze Bolts, Steel Studs and Bronze Nuts?

Mine are steel bolts, and had anti-seize compound on them from the factory.
