Exhaust fell off...literally

Let me preface this with I don't know much about exhaust systems.

I was driving on a washboard road today and heard a weird noise. Pulled over and my tail pipe had spilt off the muffler (thing in the middle under the truck). Anyway that piece wraped around the axel. I finally got it off (good times) and went on about my day. I think the rest of the truck's exhaust is suspect anyway, the exhaust was in the back of my mind recently as needing some attention. I've been hearing some weird noises anyway and recenlty thought the truck backfired- I think I was hoping it wasn't mine...

The questions I have are: do I replace the system with OEM, upgrade the system to a performance system or something or just swap it out with a raised air intake. For the raised air intake would I remove the other parts that were left of my current system?

Thanks,
Alex

Thumbs up

The question is how much $$$ do you want to spend. You could go to a local muffler shop to have a system made for you (I'm guessing the cheapest), or you can purchase an NRP system from RN (expensive). Do you need just the cat-back? NRP cat back is $600 and the Y-pipe is $860 from RN. IMHO, the stock exhaust system is too restrictive.

BTW...the Mantec snorkel for the 3.9L/4.0L only requires trimming of the airbox horn...no other mods are required.

Good luck!

I have a Borla that has low time/miles on it. I replaced it with full NRP. I've been wanting to post it in the for sale section but haven't had the time to clean and photo. Let me know if you are instered and I can get on it.

you could go with a set of headman headers, new cats, new O2 sensors and have it plumbed in. I would think you would end up about $1,200 for a header set up. The borla sounds pretty good to from Dan!

Question Shorty Headers

Does anybody make shorty headers to replace the stock cast iron exhaust manifolds?

Question

Thanks...do you have any knowledge of these? Will these work with the factory/NRP Y-pipe?

Alex, I would just have a local muffler shop do the work as it would be much cheaper than OEM system..

There is a shop on Evans just west of I-25 right across from Freeway Ford that does awesome job. He quoted me $250 for a full catback system.

Good luck

Mine broke under the TEN YEAR EXHAUST WARRANTY and I made the dealer replace the whole setup. But mine's a 97 and that was within 2007.
