These Defender 90s are a typical sight in the touristy areas of Naples. They look impeccable. Does anyone have a guess on their age?

Wasn't italy just in the news about being bankrupt and needing a bailout?

Yes, pretty much. Standard & Poors (deservedly) just downgraded Italy's debt rating one notch to
A/A-1. Not a good thing. It only adds to concerns of contagion in the debt-stressed euro zone...

I'd say they are at most 10yrs old or so, basically a pre wolf TD5 militarised chassis with the 300TDI engine.

Italy did not order the wolf spec vehicles when they became available but purchased "core" military defenders
eg basic export spec military defender, after 1999 land rover used the TD5 chassis and body parts with ROW 300TDI engines as shown by the TDI sticker on the lower wing and the TD5 fuel filler in the rear tub.
