Enough tread to play?

Hey folks -
A local guy has this set of 285/75r/16s for sale for $50 bucks... not much tread left. The hope was that they are better than what I've got - mismatched road-going british 235/85/16s. Not so sure they are... any thoughts on if this is too little tread to tell much difference? Any idea how long it will last?

I've got BFG A/Ts on my Z71 chevy - and they are pretty much just ok. Really want KM2s for the 110 but cant afford em. Making a compromise. DOn't want to bother mounting these things even though they are next to free if they won't help on the trails.

Can't lose for $50. Let me know when you get them on and we can do a shakedown run.

There are several used tire places down on Victory Drive that look like they have some sets of M/T's or A/T's if you pass on these

I'd look a little harder for another set. Do they have to be 33" or are you just looking for a set of tires for mild offloading? They has to be a place that sells used tires around where you live.
Factor in the cost of swapping the tires and you'll see that you are better off paying a little more for a better set.
I'd sell you my 265 ATs (include the spare which probably did not touch the road for $50) but the cost of shipping would kill the deal. (and I'd need to get them unmounted first! )
