Engine wont turn over

Filled up at a gas station and got back into my truck and i couldn't get my transmission out of park. This happened to me before when my brake switch failed and the replacement wasn't adjusted properly so I shorted the brake switch wires together and voila i was able to put it into drive.

Got home and started to try to adjust the switch (what a bitch it is to get to) and kept trying the transmission , shutting the engine off between attempts. Finally I tried to turn it back on and it would turn over... Battery is fully charged... Everything else comes on and works... Just the starter is not engaging...

Any thoughts?

I wasn't even touching the shifter except to shift to drive... The break switch is under the hood... I've been meaning to disable that solenoid for a while... Just a bitch to get to...

I was all set to go on that run and this happened the day before. No way I would go without my vehicle 100%. My kids cried when I told them we couldn't go.
