Engine Squeak

My 97 is making a squeaking noise right at the front of the engine behind the grill. Seems much worse at cold start ups and gets better when hot. I can't seem to locate it with a stetho. I hit the belt with some soap to see if it changed and it did nothing. I have an extra belt so I might put it on.

Anyone think of something else I should look at? It runs fine.
Thanks
Rich

Or your power steering fluid is contaminated and is thickening win the cold weather, making the PS pump pulls stiff to turn and the belt is squealing over it.

I just remedied this in my girlfriends 91 Landcrusier

Sometimes even if the belts look good with no cracks they can still be "Glazed" and cause chirping...especially the v-belt rigs. If you don't know when they were done than you might want to change'm before you go replacing more expensive things.

Looks like it might be the water pump on the way out.

Thanks

Buy genuine and get the genuine gasket. Change it asap before it blows up.

Well it turns out to be the alternator.
