The oil cap holds it in place a bit. As for the rest, gravity does.

my engine is so smooth that it is hard to tell, but at idle it appears to be a tad quiet but nothing major.

I just like the bling factor of having that LOL

Yes the cover does dissipate a little of the noise. It does just sit on top of the motor and is secured down by the oil cap and by the fuel injectors, a little.

Hey nice pic. Who's your photographer ?

They make a bonnet quiet kit, most of the engine compartment noise bounces off the hood and comes through the firewall. Paul Warren @ British Car Docs said it makes a significant difference. Of course I haven't done mine yer but plan to.

I'll probably just cut Dynamat since I have some left, but also have heard this is good: http://www.noisekiller.co.uk/

Or Overlander did this thread: http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...Sound+proofing

a LOT of noise also bleeds through the tranny tunnel cover and seatboxes. I still have a few spots to hit up there. Also look at the points where wiring comes through the bulkhead. Those are good noise bleeding paths if they aren't sealed up well.

I'd actually like to know this as well since soundproofing is on my winter to-do list.
