Engine Shutdown

Every once in a while my 94 D90 misfires and this leads to the engine sounding like it is starved for gas as it quickly shuts down and shuts off. So I'm forced to pull off on the side of the road and "sit". But only for a few minutes. Because after, say, five minutes, I can typically restart it and the problem disappears. The problem may not return for days or weeks or even months. But when it does return, I'm forced to do the same thing: sit and wait and restart. Any insights as to why this is happening?
Thank you.

Have you ever relocated your ignition amplifier module on your distributor?

Does this happen only after the truck has been running for a lengthy period of time?
If so the coil is likely the first suspect. When they leak their coolant they overheat causing with bad starting or running as you are seeing.
Next up, the fuel pump my be close to the end of its life.
A friend of mine runs a land rover / range rover specialty repair shop. Based on his experience, they are capable of stopping anywhere, anytime, at any cost.

I don't know about the brakes, only their unreliability.
