Engine Knock

My D90 sat unloved for a while, and lost it's oil pump prime. I got the pump re-primed, and have oil pressure again (the oil light turns off). I unfortunately have a knock in my engine now. A mechanic friend told me that it was not a problem, and I should let it run and the knock would go away in a while (he said it could be 20-30min). Because of the knock I have tried not to run it, and it hasn't been running for more than a minute or so at a time.

What's the consensus? Is my buddy right?

Knock or tick? How long did you run it without oil pressure?

It idled about 10min w/o pressure. I guess the noise is more of a tick, but a good solid tick.

Tick I would suspect rockers. Personally, I would run it until it dies, but it is easy enough to check the rockers. Sometimes they do get better after running for a bit.

PS I got a 3.9 long block here if it really is toast (which I highly doubt)
