Engine code 44 - repeatedly fires

I've repeatedly gotten code 44 ... I think this is the third time it's been triggered over the last year or two.

Each time I replace the o2 sensor and the code goes away...for a while.

Does anyone know if there might be some other issue that is triggering the malfunction? I noticed one of the bolts on the exhaust manifold was loose...perhaps that was part of the issue.

methodical steps, first of all make sure you don't have oil leaks or any other foreign material on the top of the sensor, then inspect your connections. correct if needed, then hook a scanner to it and map the sensors it is the only way to really verify what is going on.

Exhaust leak would cause it too.

How right you are, pre sensor exhaust leak causes false air readings which do not jive with engine function, thus the code is set as well.
