Electronics knowledge primer

I hope I'm not alone in my lack of electronic knowledge. Does anyone know of a good basic source for explanations of electronic wiring, relays, switches, etc? In the near future I'd like to start adding some electronics (lights, gauges, chargers, CB, etc) to my existing harness and I'd rather fight smarter than harder on this one. I'm not looking for an easy answer because I know there probably isn't one -- just looking for the tools to learn!

Thanks!

I bet haynes has an auto electronics book.. and there are probably sites out there too. A cars electrical system is pretty basic stuff.. Simple DC circuitry. So if you find a giant electronics tutorial site, dig into the DC section and that will apply.

Yeah I've hit up the online tutorials - didn't know if there might be something out there more 'practical application' as it relates to custom wiring and such

Two books I found to be of great help:
The 12 volt Bible
Boat Owner's Electrical and Mechanical Handbook

Also look up the old thread here called "electrickery"

There's nothing particularly magical about wiring. Keep in mind that automotive wiring is made as cheap as possible, to install quick and easy, and last until the warranty expires.
You on the other hand, can take your time, use top quality materials and make it safe secure and reliable.
