Electrical Issues & the best repair manuals for a 1995 D90

I am planning on trouble shooting a major electrical problem today and thru the weekend...
Last weekend we where returning from an offroad adventure driving at highway speed. Suddenly, the GPS cut out (connected to the cigar lighter), temperature gauge went dead, and the engine began to surge & cut out. The rest of the vehicle electronics cut out as well. While still rolling, I turned the key off and tried to start the vehicle in neuatral. Nothing... Since we were still rolling, I just popped the clutch to resume our journey.

Once we were closer to home, I stopped to refuel and inspect. The battery is good, all fuses in the engine compartment and behind the passenger compartment panel are good. When the key is removed and the battery is hooked up, the chimes ring like you are getting ready to start and the oil light is illuminated. The chimes stop, but the oil light stays on...until the battery is disconnected. We were able to push start the truck and get home, but now I have to figure out what is going on. Turning the key does nothing and it appears as if I have some kind of electrical drama. I do not know where to start and am a complete newbie when it comes to vehicle electronics. I am going to look at all the wiring for phyisical defects right now. Any ideas on how I should proceed with testing?

I purchased the "Haynes Restoration Manual" and find it to be quite useless. Additionally, I have purchased the workshop CD ROM for Expedition Exchange. It has quite a bit of good info. It refers to a document not on the CD... Range Rover ETM (Electronic Trouble Shooting Manual). I don't know where to get this and could use some advice on where to get some decent printed manuals. I really want to know how to solve these issues myself in case of a backcountry breakdown.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

Follow-up Post:

I just got done removing all the passenger compartment fuses and hooked the battery back up. A terrible buzzing sound came from the passenger side seat box. I opened it up to find and electrical component (I think it is a relay) on buzzing away & vibrating. It was attached to the rear portion of the box (there are two in this location) It is the one nearest to the driver. It is marked "BOSCH 12v 30A" 0 332 014 112. Any idea what this might indicate and what this relay is for?

Thanks
Jeff

Follow-up Post:

I have pulled both of the relays under the passenger seat and all the interior fuses...the oil light still stays illuminated.

The CD I have refers to the Range Rover Electrical Trouble Shooting Manual (ETM). Does anyone have a pdf copy of this or know where I can find it? The CD I have is from "Heritage Motor Centre" and lacks this particular manual.
Thanks,
Jeff

Rave CD is no good (enough) for the '94 and '95. I (or Charles) need to show you the LHP28 manuals (well.... scanned version of the 110 paper manual).

Loic,

Can you send me a copy of the 110 manual you have? I have several LR manuals from the dealer but I am not sure I have the one you are referring to.

Hey Andrew-

I've got a printed NAS 110 service manual from the dealer (it's about 2-3" thick) as well as LHP28 (CDROM). Looks to me like my printed copy is exactly what's on LHP28 (along with the NAS90 stuff). You can pick up a copy at EE for $30. I've just ordered LHP26 (for old rusty Defenders).

Chance, out of curiosity, which WSM do you have? I have two WSM's, the '97 electrical schematic book, the connector book, plus the parts book, and one WSM from RN that the PO gave to me. The two I have are part numbers LDAWMUS93IS & LDAWMEN93US. I don't really know what the difference between them is though, I guess I haven't really looked through them...just sort of took stuff apart and figured it out on my own as I went. They may be necessary to put some of it back together though. haha

Chance is right, the manuals on the LHP28 CD are the scanned '93 110 paper manuals (amazing that somehow no one was able to get the original manual in electronic format if you ask me.....).
I also have the paper (and self scanned) version of the '93 110 manual as well. The only benefit for the LHP28 CD for me is that I paid for it.... It does not contain what I expected it to contain which was specific workshop manuals for the '95 (and '94) D90.

Follow-up Post:

For future reference, here is something I posted on the D90source yahoo group mailing list a while ago (yes, it contains some crap at the beginning, but also lists all the manuals numbers at the bottom):
==============================
Not sure if that specific link was posted neither, but I am sure that will help a bunch of owners looking for owner and workshop manuals.

I bought the LHP28 (1993-1997 NAS D90) version from a US retailer (cheaper that on the Heritage web site I think). While I think it is worth the money, a few things to keep in mind:
- will _only_ work on a Windows machine
- the copy protection is the strongest I have seen on CD/DVD media..... The CD has security information encoded in the physical media (and every file is encrypted with that information). Don't plan on being able to make a backup copy of it, it just will not work (until someone spends the time to understand and bypass the protection).
- I can print the manuals though (seems like this is not true on every version on those CDs?)
- no "real" workshop manual for the 1994 and 1995 models.

So to make a backup copy of it, I printed all the manuals into PDF files (using a PDF Printer). This technic will also allow non-Windows users to use the manuals. I did not see myself bring a computer to my garage neither did I like the idea of risking to scratch the CD (and render it un-useable)

Note that the all the manuals (including 1997) are actually scans of the paper version (as opposed to reusing the 1997 electronic version found on the RAVE CD.... Odd if you ask me. Still don't understand why they could not locate the 1993-95 electronic versions neither). The "1994-1995 D90" models are actually "supported" by the amended 1993 D110 workshop manual.
Anyway, better than nothing I guess! See below for the list of files included in that CD.

For those of you still looking for the NAS RAVE that contains pre-1997 D workshop manuals (i.e. 1993, 94 or 96), it just does not exist. The _lastest_ (and last) RAVE CD contains all the manuals that ever existed for the NAS vehicules (yes, on a single CD) and was released in 2004 (if memory serves correctly). Since that date, you can buy a subscription to the online manuals at (same "problem", no mention of the pre-97 Defenders......), can't remember the URL, but I am sure this is mentioned somewhere else (that web site was mandated by law both in the US and in Europe. It is my understanding that some other countries (Australia?) forces manufacturer to provide manuals _for_free_ and they typically end up being posted on web sites (my father got the manual for his new digital camera from a canon web site in AU I think).

Other interesting links:
Series III manuals: http://www.landroverweb.com/Land-Rov...manual-pdf.htm
There have been other links posted (to some eastern country Land Rover web site.... Don't remember on the top of my head)

For those of you MAC or Linux (or others) users that do not have access to a Windows machine, once you purchased the CD, do a search on your prefered Peer-to-peer file sharing application and plug-in keywords like: "LHP28" or one of the book part number (and if nothing returns, try again in a few days! ;-) ).

Here is the content of the LHP48 CD:

Hum.... This is odd, doing a search on my computer I found
Land Rover Workshop manual - LDAWMUS93IS (not RAVE) - 1993 Defender 110 NAS - Part 3 of 6 - Engine and Engine Systems.pdf
which I know is the scan version of the '93 WSM since I scanned it.

But the LDAWMEN93US seems to be the '93 110 WSM included on the LHP28 CD which I thought was the same.... Maybe a (slightly) later revision? I don't remember seeing any difference (but then.... I did not print the entire thing).

Well, I inherited the one along with the original parts book from LRNA when they closed their Schaumburg, IL training location. I was there taking a class and they said they were moving and welcomed us to take anything we saw that wasn't already marked with someone's name, so I took those and the framed poster of the Range Rover and Defender sitting outside a Country House.

The other one I printed directly off Land Rover Infotrail, which is a the secured website that Dealers log into to order cars, find TSB's etc. etc.

Now.... That's the type of connection I am missing.....
I'm interested in finding unfindable workshop manuals....

I'm aware of the new web site (I thought dealerships were using this one too?) where you can pay a fee to access manuals but there are two gotchas that stopped me from doing it (for a reasonable price):
- you have to pick a year for the vehicule so anything that is not specific to that year does not show up (even if newer or older manuals/TSBs/.... really apply to that vehicule)
- downloading the entire manual is not practical since you have to print each page (I think) one by one (vs. just downloading it)

So, only paying when needing it would cost a fortune for an individual. But I am sure that was done for a reason.

BTW, the website does not have the older manuals for the '93-'95 NAS Defenders! [IIRC they stated that any car 1995 or newer would have workshop manuals avail there]

I bought a NAS Defender WSM from the dealer or other US based parts supplier when i bought my 95 D90 (new in January 1996). It has the best electrical section I have ever seen in a WSM. Each major electrical subsystem has a separate wiring diagram for the NAS D110 and NAS D90s.

Do any of the electrical diagrams from the WSM for the NAS '93 D110 work for the NAS '94 D90.

Any other places to seek out electrical diagrams for a NAS "94 D90. Trying to sort out some issues.
