Electric Portable Air Conditioner...

Here's an idea for air conditioning. Hooks to 12v or runs off lithium ion battery pack. Can be taken into a tent when camping. Not sure how well it performs in a car, but in the posted discussions with the company it looks like they say it will work. Thinking of ordering one but not sure I want to be the guinea pig. Has promotional pricing right now. For the cost its a lot cheaper than installing old school AC. I dont think its as powerful full climate control system, but for my daily trips and in and around, just something blowing cold air would be great. Thoughts?

So where does the condensate go? What a load of tosh.

From what I read there is a drain pipe for the condensate.

Based on the results from many other "successful" crowdfunded projects (and lack of delivery to backers, etc), I'd personally wait to be able to buy one outright.

In theory it would work. It's just a heat pump. Basic thermodynamics.

The question is how much energy in kW can it move from the hot area and exhaust to the outside, and for how long.

I've looked at that as something to use at the weekend job in a recovery tent setup. If you get it I'm curious to hear how well it works.

If this device can really cool 1100btu/hr with 12V @ 12.5A, you might as well install this in your Defender, because it's the most compact air conditioning unit with this kind of performance.

Read thru the comments and also the updates to get an idea about it. Someone asked about for a car and it seemed like it was fine for that but then others were debating it.

Not sure if this link gets you there. On the updates it says it is about to ship. If you click on the one you want it gets you to order form. I'm so tempted to order now to save a little dough. The battery is expensive. Maybe just get the unit and plug it in to the battery. Spend the battery money on a deep cycle one and hook up a solar charger to it. Not as portable like that.

Not sure this is enough to cool the whole cab with all the windows and all. But to get AC started I still have to buy a triple crank pulley, Ac pulley and its mount. That's almost the cost of the unit alone!

Yes paged through all the data and saw the timeline, but no real updates so we don't know if the May 2017 is an accurate ship date.
We have a vehicle mounted glass mat 12V deep cycle battery bank, so will not be using the accessory battery pack offered with this AC unit.

We have a switch to route the alternator output to either the car battery or the deep cycle battery bank, so we could run this unit at night and in the morning start the engine and after the car battery is charged, charge up the deep cycle battery bank.
We also have a 145 watt solar panel that in direct sun will produce 12 AMPS at 12V.

You'll be disappointed if you try and cool your vehicle during the heat of the day with this unit, but at night it would be a godsend to take the edge off by cooling and removing humidity.

Will wait to find out when these start shipping and then make a purchase to confirm that my order will be filed and shipped.

Looks like these are starting to ship. Anyone actually thinking of ordering one?

The whole scenario is a complete disaster.
Don't buy one.

Issue is like most kickstarter's the haven't shiped yet and people are getting upset and asking for refunds. And while people get refunds they then don't have enough cash on hand, company gives up and walks away with profit.

If you want a legit AC system that will actually work try this.

Bantam II Ultra Compact Custom Air Conditioning System - Restomod Air

It's small enough to fit under the seat box , or inside a custom-made cubby or above a side fuel tank. Smallest legit system on the market. But, it isn't portable
