Talking ECU relocation 94 D90

been brain storming an idea for a while now for relocating the ecu on the D90 that i have to a higher location. Two ideas i have come up with is: one, just undoing it from where it is now and placing it to the bulkhead in front of the gearshift. two, would be using a section of the harness from a disco that has the same type of ecu therefore lengthing the cable to be able to place say on the back of the center console or the like.

would appreciate any input from members of the community.

Mine is screwed to the side of the trans tunnel, which is better than the outside of the footwell. My truck has AC, so its not in the factory location anyway. I'm not sure how you could mount it to the firewall in front of the gear shift - the fuse box is right there and the lower dash is actually an air plenum.

I take it that this is for water? Why not waterproof it and leave it?

Not sure what this would buy you...what about the distributor and alternator and the rest of the electronic stuff?

Mine is located in the Tuffy Box in the center console.
The wiring runs through a waterproof wrapped cable on the outside of the trans tunnel on the passenger side.
The previous owner paid the LR dealer an arm and leg to do this. The distributor and alternater are waterproof (or waterproofed) models.

It can be done.

Where is the stock location on a '94? I just removed my A/C and it looks like I could move it slightly higher up under the passenger foot area next to the fuses. Is that where is usually goes?

I know at one time I had seen a set of ECU extension wires for sale through a distributor. If anyone knows who it was that would be great then you could do as stated above and move it into the tuffy box. Scorpion Racing also sells a "waterproofing kit" for v8 defenders. May be worth a look.

I actually had a UK website bookmarked a while ago that had an extended cable for the ECU for sale. it was something like 6 feet long or something outrageous. the one end plugs into the old wire and the new end into the ECU. let me see if i can find that website again because I'm going to need to move my ECU to higher grounds too.

Any luck finding those extended ecu cables? I've searched and I can't find them.

If I move it into the headliner flooding is a slim possibility.

can't you just get a small pelican case and drill some holes, then seal it up and stick it back?

Pelican, Aquapac or Fuerte Case

http://pelican.com/case_category.php...e=Micro%&New=%

http://www.aquapac.net/usstore/erol.html

http://www.fuertecases.com/Merchant2...Code=Otter-Box

The Aquapac looks nice because you can cut a hole in it easy for the cable and seal it up with some glue or something. plus the all clear plastic is nice to read those codes it spits out every other week

has anyone done the ECU in the pelican case route?

if so pictures and what did you seal it up with -

i'm honestly considering just sealing up the whole box with fiberglass and silicone seal the cable thoughs with silicone.

but doing it in a pelican case would be interesting but in reality you have to do both boxes (driver and passanger)
