DX Indicator on Radio

Does anyone know what the DX symbol on the standard 97 radio means? I disconnected my lead, and re-entered my radio code and this DX symbol has been stuck on and the reception is terrible. Any ideas? I ran a search on the forums and could not come up with anything.

Yes, that's what it means. Turning DX off decreases sensitivity, leading to poor reception in weak signal areas. Conversely, in strong signal areas, the radio may overload with DX on, also leading to poor reception.

Thanks for the input Barry...do you know how to turn it off? I think your assumption is right:
