Dumb question

So how bad does the diesel smell with the soft top down? I'm considering a diesel defender but will be driving with top off exclusively.

Not a dumb question. It doesn't smell at all when you are driving and only smells if you are stopped and the wind is blowing it back at you.

You don't notice it with the top off, you do get some exhaust issues with the top on with the back window up. Diesels are much slower, but have a lot more lower end torque offroad. There are a lot of pros and cons with diesels, the worse con is the noise level and the best is the MPG which is usually around 26-28 mpg. Good luck

Thanks guys. I'm looking for a 3rd car/ beach cruiser type more so than an off road monster. Diesels seem to be more reliable, more fuel efficient, and less $$ than the NAS D90s.

I'm slow to average driver lol…it's a beach cruiser, not a sports car for me anyways! Is the acceleration really poor or just the top speed?

Yes and yes.
0 to 60 is measured in minutes not seconds.
Top speed and birds are making better forward progress than you are in your Rover.
Overall fun............... diesels rule!

Now a TDI is a whole different animal, I'm talking 2.5 liter NA diesel.

Haha. I think I might go look at a 2.5 turbo diesel…are those a little quicker/more powerful?

And reliability???

NA = 68HP
Turbo = 85HP
Not much of a power difference and more maintenance with the turbo.

In my opinion half the fun is the drive so slow is ok by me. I get enough fast at work.
