Drop in alternator substitute for 300Tdi

Finally got rid of my Magnetti .

Got an Iskra AAK 5326, 100 amps.
It's a direct fit, you just have to switch
pulleys (6 channels vs 7 channels) which
by the way will probably give you a little
more amps.

More good news, you can find it in the US
and it's 186.86$

Had to make a little spacer (0.350") with
a lathe in order to get pulleys aligned.

Yeah i know, i was part of this thread.

The good thing now is i'm sure it works and
it's not 350 $ , it's 186$.

Just wanted to give a detailed solution for all
Tdi users.

Only if you tell people where to get it for that price.

You should be able to get a genuine Marelli 100 amp designed for the 300TDI in that price range as well. I've purchased a couple and they cost around the $200 mark.

Ask for Alan.

As for the genuine Marelli, i'll pass.
I'll pass at 65, 100 or even 150 amps .
Had to change diodes plate almost every year
on mine. If someone wants it (well shipping is
going to be a pita )...

I've not seen one fail and everyone says they are the best choice. Are you sure there is not something else wrong with your electrics?

Mean Green makes an alternator now as well. Their Starters are the best out there (IMHO).
I am planning on upgrading to one on my Classic soon.

They make a high output as well. Not sure if they make one for the 300Tdi though.

Magnetti Marelli best choice for alternators i'm not sure about that. I wish i could have fit a Denso unit, but the Iskra seems simple and strong, it's made in Slovenia. Anyway, time will tell.
As for my electrics, i'm pretty sure something else is wrong... it's a Land Rover plus it's a Defender .
My best choice left over is available to whoever wants it.

I had nothing but trouble after replacing a stock alternator (bearings were going) with cheap rebuilds from advance auto. Went through 3 of them. Switch to a denso and it's been smooth sailing since.

Denso bought Magneti Marelli rotary machine division about 10 years ago, but Magneti Marelli is still making Magneti Marelli alternators, even with a Denso tag on them, still crap imo.
I was more thinking about the Toyota style almost unbreakable made in japan Nippon Denso alternator.

I'm sure they can fab one up, only took 2 weeks for mine to be fab'd for my V8. Pretty price tag on it though, PM if you wanna know the price.

you think MM is bad ?..........good luck with the Iskra. Haven't been able to get the bearings in them to last very long and will not use them any more. You generally get what you pay for.

Bearings in the Iskra unit are NTN.
First benefit, my charging lamp is not glowing any more
at idle speed.
Second benefit, i'm getting a solid 14.30 volts.
But, as i said before, time will tell.
