doorless

I searched but couldn't find anything. Spring is coming and I got the idea to run the d90 doorless. I've seen one picture of a d90 running doorless; it was blue i believe and in a large waterhole. Can anyone that runs doorless speak up and tell me how you do it? Do you take the whole hinge off or do u cut it so the door slips up and out like a jeep? What do you do about mirrors? Thank you.

I will sometimes run doorless if I get too lazy to put the halftops on. I just unscrew the door from the hinge (e.g. leave the hinge attached to the bulkhead). I do not cut anything! Also remember to remove your floormats before hand- highway wind will blow those suckers out.

It's a blast.. I highly suggest doing it at least once.

On a '95 just take the doortops off. Its pretty open air with no top and no door tops. I guess you can see your tires better when wheeling, but I think it looks kind of ghetto

I agree with Jeff.

Just taking off the doortops makes it feel really open air. If you have not tried this, I would see if this works for you first.......

Those are nicely designed but I think its either half-door or no door for me. I want to see what these jeep guys experience with the ability to take the door off. Does anyone know of an easy way to cut the wires for the speakers and yet be able to reattach them? I'm searching for some type of clip mechanism.

every speaker I've ever seen has those spade type connectors. There are usually two wires to each speaker that easily unhook. You shouldn't have to cut any wires.

I used to run doors off in my '74 Land Cruiser FJ-40. It was great. Of course, I was living in Hawaii at the time so that made it a little more enjoyable. I would have concerns in a Defender of not having side view mirrors though.

Seems like any male/female electical connector would work for the speaker wires. Just keep the connection on the outside of the door/body grommet and tie a loose knot in the cable so it doesn't migrate back into the door.

I think thats why Noah said to leave the hinges bolted to the bulkhead, it keeps the mirror attached. I'd imagine that the mirror would move then. Noah do the mirrors move around? I installed some polk momo speakers and I don't think they have the connectors, i'll have to take a look.

They will stay still, if you never change your speed or direction at all.

Just unbolt them.

For what it`s worth, i went without doors (and mirrors) for a couple days last year and I couldn`t stand it. It was fun, other than the fact that I had nowhere to rest my arm.

I have a pair of those tube doors last year from mr. Lucas who was lucky enough to win them at the Solihull Rally a couple years back. Hopefully this spring I will make my internal cage and run those doors--right now I am designing the speaker inset for them and will weld them on and have them re-powdercoated--I can't be without my tunes!

Ah dude,

Don't ruin a pair of tube doors by sticking speakers in them. Move the speakers somewhere else.

Aren't there mountings for the speakers under the dash if you don't have AC?
