Door poping open

My passanger side door has been popping open while driving lately. If I dont lock the door, it pops open but when locked it never happens. Could be a great 007 move to get rid of a bad guy but my girlfriend does not find the humour in my ejecting seat. Any ideas. Thanks always for your time and help.

Daniel, if the door is aligned properly, and otherwise opens and closes smoothly, it sounds like the latch is buggered. What vehicle/year? You can replace the latch assembly easily on a 94/95 - about $70 from RDS iirc. I am not sure how to remove the lock though, so you'll probably need new locks and keys (assuming you ever lock it)

Just make sure it really was closed properly the times it flew open. On mine, sometimes the catch would hit the striker bar (but not fully pass over it and wrap downward) so the door would seem to be closed until I hit a corner. If this is the case you can adjust the striker assembly downward slightly. Use a 10mm socket to loosen the 2 bolts that hold it, lower it slightly, re-tighten, and check how she closes. I think the door sags as the hinges wear.

also make sure your body stiffeners are in place. these are the meteal brackets that bolt to the wheel well and the body frame that the strickers bolt to. If they are not there the body will flex and the door will fly open. I almost lost my wife but she was wearing her seat belt ; )

Check the strikes and hinges as well.
