Door locks

I am installing new door locks but all they do is spin with the key in, anyone know why?

What kind of latches? Push button, lift?

Did you notice if they had some small ball bearings in the cylinder where the lock goes? Some lift handle locks use these ball bearings, and without them, no lockee.
