Door Check Popping?

Can anyone tell me if their front door check strap has any play in the roller? Meaning if does the roller slide up and down on its mounting pin? I have an annoying popping situation here and I need to make sure these parts arent worn out.

I have the same thing. I'd have to see about the excess play but when I open the door and i push to the outermost limit I get a loud click, or pop as you describe it. BOTH of my doors do the same thing.

All that you have to do is pull the door check cover trim (1 screw?) then pull the pin where it connects to the door and slide it out towards the middle of the truck. Should take 5 minutes tops.

Both my doors pop when opening and closing. The roller bearing on the door check arm wears out, becomes loose. The lever/spring (in pic) slams the bearing resulting on the pop.

Yeah thats what I thought too. Bought two new check straps and guess what? They pop too. In fact the new ones had more play in the roller than the old ones. I went through my notes from before taking the truck apart and both doors popped then too. The more I look at it- it seems due to the design it is going to pop no matter what.

Cheap ?, can you purchase the little z bar in the above pic separately? Mine wore down where the roller crosses it and will not hold the door open anymore. I have seen the kit before but I just need the little bar. Right hand side if anyone has one. They are handed.

TORSION BAR, LH (FROM HA906553) ALR2319
TORSION BAR, RH ALR2318

rovers north has them less than $2.50 each

Follow-up Post:

I noticed the slightest amount of wear on those, maybe that wear pattern is what is forcing the roller bearing downward, causing the POP

Perhaps I will get a Youtube video up to illustrate this. I wonder if ECR has some magic solution as well.

Every D I've ever seen/driven has this problem. It's a poor design that only gets worse as the mechanism wears...
