Thinking about splurging for an 80in galvanized bulkhead ....

Also, any feedback on the quality of the work they do?

I'd go with Radford Bulkheads. Ashtree just rebuilds your own so you have to send it there and they send it back. There is a cCanadian place that can repair it but for the costs I'd do Radford and ship it over.

No need to ship anything to Ashtree for rebuilding so that's not quite true.

Ditto on the "go with Radfords" comment.

Let me know what you come up with as I might do the same thing too.

Cheers

I just helped a friend get a set of half doors from Ashtree. The price was great and they came fedex in a crate. They are really nice but they didn't come with cappings. For some reason I thought they would. Anyway they are well done. Galv frame with an aluminum skin bonded on. They are primed and ready to go.

The only bulkheads I have seen from them Ashtree have been very disappointing (and I am trying to be kind) and while I will note that I have been accused of being fairly picky .....I dont feel picky..
So what happend to the fabricators on this side of the pond? I dont know but last I knew bending sheetmetal, welding and galvanizing was not exclusively a UK based talent.

Oddly enough one of my doors had the key hole punched in the wrong spot.

Ron, I bet you could do as well even with booger welds. There is no special talent needed to restore a bulkhead. The only thing that will mess up the job is taking shortcuts and hurrying. Since you aren't facing any deadlines and your only customer is yourself, you are in the perfect position to do quality work.
I would say that you should master the art of the tack weld. Enough tack welds, spaced closely and carefully ground off, will make a patch repair almost unnoticeable, especially after you fill, prime and paint. Or galvanize.
You can get by with a basic set of tools. Shears, sawzall, angle grinder, and wire welder. If you want to make it a little easier, some air tools like a nibbler, die grinder, cut off.

We stock Ashtree items. Just sold the last set of doors and will be ordering more in the next container.

Their doors are fantastic - nice welds, clean and straight, well packaged, epoxy primed and ready for paint.

Bulkheads are nicely restored and you can spec configuration (RH/LH, tunnel type, dash type) galvanized, and epoxy primed available. Again, nicely packaged/protected and ready for paint.

I brought in a set to sample and the doors were flawless, the bulkhead while straight and clean would need some surface finishing work to make it perfect. Really nice folks with good communication and they have been a pleasure to work with.

Checking with them on availability, timeline, and direct ship costs.

Only brought in ROW spec to date.
