Does anyone know anything about this D90 on ebay?

The item # is 220855213146
It has a salvage title and looks like the odo was turned back at some point.
heres a pic.
Im thinking about purchasing it. does anyone know anything about it, or have some insight on this situation?

I've spent a lot of time on-line in the last month searching for a D90 and noticed this car as well.
My concern is that they do not explain the "salvage title" in the listing. I would expect an explanation of some kind.
Just seemed odd to me. And for that price you should be able to find a nice D90 with a CLEAN title and less sketchy history
my 2 cents.
Good luck

Be a little careful with these guys, they have a mixed (i.e., less then stellar) reputation online when I did some digging (they have/had a D110 '93 so had looked there before I bought one as we live close by there). I looked through their lot and inspected a number of the cars one evening and wasn't overly impressed. A lot of cosmetic/cover-up stuff done in their "resto's"

The price is a little high for a salvage vehicle in my opinion. You should look at it in person if you are really interested.

I think that place sells on consignment.

No sure what you are exactly looking for, but one of the forum members has a white SW located on LI as well. Search for forum member Hans.

For a '97, that truck is far below average all around.

Carpet is missing, and instead looks like a cheap roll-on bedliner ws done through the whole interior.

Exterior cage is totally missing. I think they replaced the front section of the top as well, as the exo-cage should have 4 bolt holes on each side... this one only has two.

It's been re-painted at some point, you can see where they sprayed right over the Land Rover lettering on the hood.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it was rolled. Otherwise, why replace sections of the top and remove those parts of the cage?

Also has significant rust-thru on the rear crossmember, to the left of the flag sticker.

Shot you a PM.

That's going to be a tough combo to find, unfortunately. Automatics only came stock in '97 and as you've probably noticed they draw a premium over the other years. In fact, the 1997 NAS trucks were the only Defenders ever made with the V8 and an automatic, the Brits never got that combo at all. Numbers that I can find say there were 1500 soft tops.

You will have to compromise somewhere in that equation. Though finding a '94 or '95 with the manual transmission and everything else you're looking for is possible, and it's not an overly difficult swap to put in the automatic (though the shifter console, if you want the same as a '97, is absurdly pricey if you can even find it).

Oh, I forgot to ad in here....

Welcome to the forum! This here place is a real oddball when it comes to internet forums about trucks, the atmosphere here is just fantastic. If you love trucks, are willing to learn some new terminology, all in a relaxed atmosphere, this is the place.

haha ya i have been reading the threads and it seems that you guys are all a great, relaxed crowd! I have been lurking on this board for years, but now that I need a new DD its time to buy!

btw... how hard is it to convert the hard to soft top? I read the "how to" someone wrote up, and that seems out of my league. is it even worth it?

Technically, it's not difficult, just time consuming. It's also expensive as it's not just the top. It's also the doors, tailgate and rollcage too.

Yep. That's one of the common spots to look. Mine is starting to show a little bit too, but nowhere near that bad.

Also check the firewall (Called the bulkhead in rover-speak). Mostly around the pedals, from leaking clutch master cylinders, around the dash vents under the windshield, and also that 2" strip on the outside between the front fenders and the doors.

Worst spot is usually the rear gas tank skidplate, which also holds the tank in the truck.

Stickers in strange spots always draw my attention, usually covering something. Just like fresh undercoating, always tap it with something to see if there are holes.

Haven't seen $20k for a '97 unless it's been in Nantucket its whole life, and/or rusted to hell...and at that point it isn't worth it to anyone.

Drive a stick shift and have a much wider choice ... Converting a SW to a ST is way too expensive to contemplate ... Given the state of the economy I'm sure a few vehicles will turn up on the market with negotiable pricing.

Well, it needs about an additional $5k or so dumped into it right away just from what I see in the pictures. You need the front exo-cage and a rear crossmember, neither of which are cheap.

I'd have to see it in person, and I'd really get underneath looking for rust issues before making a decision. At under $20k..... maybe? I'm just paranoid about what else is hidden under the stickers and the bedliner.

It does not have 97 front fenders, the marker lights are not the right ones plus in wrong place.

Probably a frontal impact replaced with '94 stuff.

The roof looks correct. Two bolt holes on each side to tie cage in.
