Does anybody know what this is?

This was attached to the battery box on an ROW 110 V8. It was connected to a isolation terminal near the starter with the wire coming down from the alt. The other side of the coil looking thing was hooked to the + terminal on the battery.

This looks to me like some sort of setup for a 24V coil.
Can't tell by the picture if it is for running a 24 volt ignition system with a 12V vehicle or just part of a 24V coil setup.
Since your pictures and explanation are incomplete, so are the answers that refer to them.
They don't show and you don't describe where the high tension lead connected, but perhaps you don't know and neither do I.

That's a split charge "blocking diode", the two terminals are for attaching to either another battery or a "take off" for powering something else.

The diode will stop power from draining back through from the main battery, but a diode being a diode you won't get the full voltage across it, it'll always be 0.7v down

It did have a dual battery setup and there was a lead going to the back of truck hooked to two circuit breakers. I think the truck had some sort of major audio system.
