do I need to pack the oil pump?

Rebuilt the top end. Pan is off, filter is off, cooler lines disconneted from the rad. but I have not opened up the oil pump. Do I need to Vaseline it or am I ok as long as I don't open the pump? Or for good measure should I manually prime it with a socket?

If you didn't drain the cooler lines, its probably still primed. If it was me, I'd take off the cover and pack it.

I would not bother, but be ready with to prime it manually. If you have a drill bit set up, I would do that before starting, but I would not bother if you have to make the bit.

I believe a 14mm socket works
