Do I Need a New Radiator?

About half of the small fins on the cernter of the radiator are gone. The others come off when you touch them... very brittle.

On heavy trafic the them gauge nears red. Repalced the thermostat recently. The D90 has about 100k miles and I believe the radiator its original. What are the chances that this is the reason for near over heating? Does anyone make an after market radiator or is spending $550 the only way?

Thanks to all for your input.

Your radiator is toast. If the cooling fins are falling off, you have answered your own question. Spend the money for a radiator before you have to buy an engine.

Anyone know if this will work with our Defenders?

As long as your tanks are still good (and they should be) you can get a new core installed.
Call some radiator shops in your area.

x2

you can get an extra core installed and it will be cheaper than OEM. Don't drive your truck when it is hot.

The core is the part with the fins. The tanks are the solid pieces on the sides.
Any good radiator repair shop will be able to remove the old core from the tanks and install a new one.

I just went through getting a new radiator this summer, I bought one from pendy as the price he quoted me was about what a local shop would charge, and he of course knows his stuff so I know in the end what he sent would connect up and work perfectly. I couldn't find a shop to do a core replacement for less then 600, so paying a little bit more made sense to me.
