Discos with 300tdi & auto box ?

What year if any did the Disco come with a 300tdi and an auto box in the UK ? (were they ever ?) Or were any Rovers ever made with TDI's ad auto boxes ?

Auto was available from late 200tdi on in the disco.

So I think 93/94-99.

Yup, 200Tdi could have an auto (about 1992? not sure now) and all 300's could have it. later 300's had an electronic throttle and FIP and an ECU which gave 10 or so more horsepower (auto's only). you need to strip the pump down to convert it back to mechanical throttle, or just swap the pump over totally.

I just drove around Ireland and England in a TD5 with an auto box and compushift from Ashcroft and that 110 completely loaded to the roof with 4 big guys a roof top tent and more than a 1000 lbs of parts accessories and camping equipment was launching everywhere (of course it was tweaked by Twisted Performance , but it was quite impressive all the same with the load that flying brick was carrying)

yes that's a computer controlled td5 auto, night and day difference. Its worth the time to drive one before you start down that disappointing path.

these are cheap enough in the UK, just buy a complete take out from the rad to the handbrake with the shifter, oil cooler etc,

what you want is a nice guy in the UK with a van and Doug's container from the chit chat 1.4 thread.

Dave

hi Chris i have just built a 90 with the 300tdi & zfhp22 autobox from a disco, it has been a shock coming from a v8 with almost 200bhp under the bonnet.

its not a dog, but i no longer worry about speed cameras.
I may well be in touch with ashcrofts to get a new ratio on the transfer box as its currently a 1.22 box from the disco, i'm running 235x85x16 tyres & 60mph is a comfortable cruise though it struggles on the hills and there are lots of them here.
so a 1.4 ratio would make a difference.

engine is completely standard though fresh from rebuild.

regards

Gren

Gren,
I would think David Ashcroft would have the answer to making it right . I know it is "apples to oranges " for comparison but my old '97 4.0 with autobox was sweet (although it was sweeter when I though a super chager on it, and 4.10's R&P's) There are a lot of hills here in Killington VT too, so I also would not want too take a Rover like a 127 put in a tweaked 300tdi and an auto box only to find out it's gutless.
Dave ,
can the 300TDI autobox be modified like GM auto boxes like TH400 by modifying the valve body plates, sprinds, and balls for firmer shifts at higher RPMs (better performance) ?
