Diesel Conversion= Salvage Title

An oft talked about Converted Diesel 90 on Ebay claims that it has a Salvage title because of the conversion to diesel. Is there any truth to this? In any State?

I asume you are talking about the white one from Colorado.

Seems fishy to me, I know a few people that have swapped from Gas to Diesel here in Colorado and not one of them has a salvage title.

Someone with a car fax should run the VIN and see what it has to say.

Edit
Just noticed it was converted in Vermont, maybe someone from there can comment.

In IL they encourage the conversion to D so no.

Sounds like it was salvaged before the conversion and rebuilt...

I agree 100%, sounds fishy. My wife e-mailed him for his reserve price and he said he would take no less than 35,000. The salvage, I can not imagine, was caused by a conversion. I mean who would know anyway, did he call DOT and say, look I just want you guys to know that my truck should be a salvage title because I installed a diesel into my rover. Remember they smoke a lot of things in Boulder. No offense to the "normal" Boulder people which are few and far between.

Converting to Diesel does not make the vehicle "Salvage" in any state.

The only events that render a vehicle/title "Salvage" are
severe physical/economic damage and/or flood.

Theft recoveries, without associated extreme
physical/economic damage, do not usually result
in a vehicle being branded "salvage".

Conversions of engines do not render it "salvage", though
they may violate Federal EPA and/or State Environmental Regulations.

Is there a handy list anywhere that shows state regulations for engine swaps? I know that some states are getting pretty tight with what qualifies, not just the emissions testing but to keep your registration legit.

that is the same one that is in our classified section, right? 94 NAS D90 Diesel TDI300 For Sale...although here, he did not tell us of the salvage title. years are messed up between the ads.

running the car fax shows a lot of things going on. this is one that carfax says "DOES NOT qualify for the CARFAX Buyback Guarantee"

Oh sure, go ahead with the generalizations! Haha, just kidding, I agree with you, there are a lot of people in Boulder who seem a little "touched".

Is this the same one that was trying to pass it off as an ECR truck but it ended up that it was done elsewhere?

If that is the case this guy is either clueless or trying to take advantage of people.

Post up the carfax details so we can see it.

does carfax list it as a salvage title? That's how it was listed when it was on consignment at go motors a few months ago on eBay. It looks like it has had at least four owners. Post up the carfax if possible

Interesting on the title, looking at archived posts, the conversion was done in 2001, I guess a clerical error on the title is possible.

Has anyone seen the truck in person?
