Defender not wanting to start in below freezing weather

I have a 2.5na and it doesn't want to start. I'm guessing it's the freeze we're in but thought I'd check to see if this is normal? It started to turn over but sounded like there wasn't enough power from the battery, like it was turning in slow motion. It was 18 degrees and I've never tried to start it when it was that cold... I live in Texas. Thanks

Batteries don't like cold and your battery may also be on its way out. Try charging it for an hour or so and try it a again. Charging obviously adds power to the battery but it also warms it up.

Sounds like you need a better battery. Give it a lot of glow. 30 to 60 seconds before starting. I've started mine at -30.

I've never gotten a 2.5na to start much below -20c, sometimes not even that cold. However, they usually turn over but just don't catch. If it isn't turning over much it is likely the battery. The 200tdi seems to be a much better cold starter.

I leave a 60 watt drop light neslted above the injector pump when mine is in the garage. 30 seconds of glow and she cranks right up down to 15f.
X2 on the battery.

Any diesel can be harder to start in the sub freezing weather. A strong battery is a must. If the motor sits for a few days in that cold even worse. A Engine block or oil pan heater are great. They also make engine blankets. But as mentioned a heat lamp helps. They also make low watt electric heaters for home waterlines that could be used.
