Not yet. I don't want to jinx myself, but it has been working pretty reliably for a while now. Occasionally it will click, but not very often. I guess it was just going through a phase.

We have been too busy dealing with our transmission issues to worry about much else.

Ok, but it is so easy to check and re-tight that is what I would do before take the whole starter out, in case it gets worse.

Good luck with your tranny and trip. Come visit once you get to Argentina.

Cheers,

As a late update, we ordered a transmission in from Ashcroft in the UK. It should be here in a week or so.

In the meantime, we have been making friends and exploring Panama.

defayago - Thanks. Hopefully we can meet up in Argentina. We always enjoy meeting other travelers or defender owners.

We are still in Panama, but our transmission has arrived. Ashcroft has been good to us so far and we are hoping to be able to retrieve the package from customs tomorrow. It has taken us a while to get to this point but we haven't exactly been rushing. It has been nice to see Panama over the last few weeks.

I am hoping that our mechanic can make some quick progress and get the thing installed in a reasonable amount of time. We were really hoping to be on a boat to Colombia at the end of this week. I guess that date has been pushed out one more week. Oh well.

Someday, when you get back stateside, we'll have to have a beer and you can tell me how the hell you pulled this off! I'm assuming my wife would either divorce me, or I'll have to take her with me...

There are many places that I would advise you to avoid if you want to stay married. Panama is one of those places.

Transmission has arrived!

Ill attach some photos of random Defenders as seen in Panama.

The first one is driven by an Australian couple on their way to the US. The second I have little info on. It was at a friend's shop for some work. The third is an SVX that is about to be outfitted for a trip to South America in a year or two.

Transmission is installed and I have the truck back at the house now!

We are staying at Panama Passage and will be heading out for a test drive this weekend, then stuffing the truck into a container sometime soon.

Test drive complete. I put about 250km on the truck this weekend and everything feels good. We are looking into shipping now. I have to clear up some expired permits and insurance , but once I do, we will try to ship out either this Friday or not until the 21st.

So far, I really recommend TRF Service S.A. on calle Ernesto Lefevre in Panama City, right across the street from Gruas Salerno. Hopefully this info is of use to someone, someday.

Maybe the title should be changed to Random Photos and stories from the Americas.

Just wanted to share some Rovers from Colombia.

Wait...what is the scoop with that first picture? The hardtop looks like it has a rounded back?

Villa de Leyva is a hot spot for Rovers.

Most are Santanas. I have only seen one 110 here. Everything is 88" or D90.
