Defender laptop mounting?

Trying to decide on the best mounting system for a laptop in my 110. Any of you guys have pics of your setups I could see?

Thinking of a RAM mount:

or maybe a Jotto:

http://www.jottodesk.net/

any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

I installed a RAM mount for my tablet PC in my 110. I used the three legged universal mount and secured it with the existing bolts on the side of the tranny tunnel and one on the seat base. It hampers the passenger's leg room a little so I take the mount tray off when I am not using it. This setup works a bit better with a laptop than a tablet due to the angle of the tray being somewhat flat. It is stable though.

I have a jotto. I hard mounted a base between the passenger seat and the tunnel. The extension plugs into the base and I made a different cradle for the laptop. Very stable, adjustable and removable. Only small base bracket remains in vehicle. I'll try to post pics tomorrow

I'm interested in seeing your setups for this.

Do any of these setups have a way of swinging the tablet/laptop into a position that doesn't take up much space when not in use?

For now I just made a simple little bracket that slips onto the dash pad and uses a single screw in an existing hole (the ashtray) so it's easy to swap between trucks. It actually works so well all I think all I'll do on the final version is angle it slightly toward the driver.

I use the jotto. Like it but if you have a passenger, it takes up too much room.

I've installed hundreds of these in every vehicle imaginable. Highly recommend.

Mine is located where it doesn't interfer with the passenger(on seatbox not on floor) and can be has an adjustable arm so I position it almost anywhere I want

I had a kodiak docking station for my Toughbook CF-28 in my Disco-it was something that could be moved both up and down as well as swing along a radius as well. I put it in between the seats behind them so that the passenger would have room-and ultimately be responsible for manipulation of the computer (vice the driver).

The mount was essentially what you see in police cars, and the CF-28 could be locked into it, so it was very stable and rather secure. My long term intent was to run a smaller touchscreen up to the dash so that navigation could be displayed through that. Instead I ended up getting a tablet that I'll just mount direct to the dash via a ram mount and will be going with the same nav software described above.

I'll post pics of what I did when I get back to my home computer tonight-the behind the seat's mount worked well for me since I almost always have a passenger and I didn't want to have them bumping into the computer/docking station etc.

I have been flirting with a dedicated car computer with a 7" or 8" touchscreen. They are getting to be badass with constant ODBII monitoring of engine functions in addition to nav, music, internet, video etc.

Thanks for everybody's replies. Any pictures would be great. I want to figure out a way to mount it so that my passenger doesn't lose too much legroom or have the laptop/mount in their way when not in use. Maybe a dash mount, but I'm not sure how I'd make that work...

If you find one that does that, let me know! I'd love to do something similar.. I'm pretty sure my D90 is causing some oil shortages around here, as the gas prices seem to go up whenever I take it out of the driveway. I'm averaging 280km's per tank!

This stuff all exists, and most of it for free even. For obdii monitoring for example

Whoops, looks like Scott beat me to it. mp3car is probably the best resource for this kind of stuff but google is your friend too.

As a follow up, here's a pick of my setup in the truck, I know it's not the style of application it would seem you're looking for but a pic is a pic so I thought it worth putting in the thread just as food for thought.

I was a beta tester for Overland Navigator and can comment on any questions you might have.
