My local garage does not plug it in if the light is on. You will also fail (northern?) VA inspection (not emission) inspection if your airbag/SRS light is on. Surprisingly, the ABS light being on is ok...

ok...i am going to buy the purge valve and try and do it myself...i watched a video online, but it was of a ford truck, which i assume doesnt have the same set up. Where is the purge valve on the land rover disco ...and after i install it, i then have to reset the cel?

i can do that by unplugging the batter right?

No. You can take it to Advance Auto Parts and they will clear it for you.

just an update...i ended up doing the repair myself, which took me over an hour. bought the purge valve from autozone for $40. probably way longer than it shouldve taken, but it is done. took it to autozone to have the cel reset and they wouldnt do it bc of liability purposes. soi just unhooked the battery. now it is time to get it inspected. been driving it for around 60 miles with no cel return. thanks for all your input/help.

That's a great update! so what code(s) did autozone pull? (I assume they gave you those codes)
Also, I do believe that if the fault is gone the ECU will remove the CEL on its own (OBD-2 systems). It just take a few "warm up/cool down" cycles (like 3? Depends on vehicle).

congrats! might have taken you over an hour, but if you had to do it again, it would take you less than half that, I'm sure

did that hr include the time spent researching, purchasing, testing, cleaning up, making sure your liability insurance is paid and your employees are happy. Probably not. Paying shops what it takes to get that done will ensure that they are there when something other than the very simple issues raise their ugly heads.
