dash lights out

Was working on hooking up a VDO temp guage today and was having an issue with a light.. so while I was in there I was testing with a test light and hit the wrong lead apparently and all of the dash lights for the gauges blew out. Checked the fuses, and no issues there, checked the relays I could find (under the fuses, and a 'bulb check' relay under the dash) and they were fine. The switch still works to illuminate the head lights and the lights (headlights, check engine, etc..) lights are working fine.. It really seems as if I blew a fuse, but I can't figure out where.. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Ryan,

I don't know about '94s But On my '97 the fuse that manages the left side running lights (side markers, tail and front) also manages the interior gauge lights. Check and see if those lights are out as well. Check your fuse map and find the left side running light fuse - you may have missed it in your hunt for the blown fuse.

FYI: This happen on my truck!!

Anyways, you got the story from Ryan. Today I put in the new VDO gas gauge and obviously no lights still (I didn't expect them to work, but at least I put the gas gauge in). When I flick on the headlights, all dash lights are out, including, Hazard, Clock and Cigar lighter. The speedo and Tach work because they are mechanically fed. But the new gas gauge is out. it won't read the gas that is in there. So is this a blow fuse or relay? Where can i find this fuse or relay?

Have you also checked the underhood fuse bank, next to the brake cylinder?

Yeah, there were 4 of the large 30amp fuses there.. one was labeled 'lighting' .. I checked them all and they were all fine...

This was actually it! It was a little 7amp fuse, first fuse on second row of fuses on the dash... I missed it on my first initial test, but we noticed that the left side running lights and tail light was out and traced it back to this one.. Thanks Len
