dash lights

Just drove my 95 d-90 ST at night for the first time in a long time. My faint recollection is that the tach and clock used to be illuminated. My other guages are illuminated, but the tach and clock are not. Can someone tell me if their's are (so I know what normal is), and if they should be illuminated (and they are not) should I be checking fuses or what to get them illuminated. Sorry in advance for the rambling question.

both should be lit. Check the bulbs first.

All of the lights in my gauges were piggybacked from one another so I assume you have a bulb problem. Also may want to double check the ground leads

Even when they're lit, they're not really 'lit', take this chance to swap in brighter bulbs/LEDs.

I got mine from superbrightled.com as noted above.
Here is what I ordered for my 97 ST D90-

Exterior:
count / location / part # / comments

2 Front Parking & Signal, Amber 67-A9
2 Front side marker, Amber WLED-A6
2 Rear side marker, Red WLED-R6
2 Tail/brake, 1157-R24 wide
4 Front and Rear Signal, 1156-A24 wide
1 Back up (reverse), 1156-W24 wide
2 License Plate, White BA9S-W4-12V
1 Flasher Relay for LED, CF13GL-02 (this goes in the dash fuse panel. There is an ECR link earlier in this chain)
2 Load Resistors RL-650 (I needed one for each front blinker, connected in line right behind the bulb socket)

Interior:
count / location / part # / comments
2 Fuel & Temp, WLED-G6
3 Tach and heater and blower lights, 74-GHP3
2 Speedo, B8.5D-G (see photo)
1 Dome light, 1156-cw18-t
I didnt change out the clock bulb

The LED make a huge difference on the interior lights. I now have to turn mine down in brightness. Not that big of a change to the exterior lights.

10 min. tops
the time was making sure i ordered the right parts. I just changed the interior lights in my SW this weekend. I think with shipping the total was $24. Shipping was 1/2 of the cost. Let me know if you want to get together some time and crack open the dash and see if the bulbs are the same in a '94

Reese what color did you get for the interior lights? How do they look compared to OEM?

Green. They really are 3 or 4 times brighter than the stock bulbs. I had to turn down the lights with the dimmer switch.

dash lights

also check to see if your dimmer toggle switch is fully connected. Mine was working loose and caused a similar problem.

Thank you

You guys are amazing. Thank you for all the help. I will go take a look, but I don't believe my 95 has a dimmer switch. Nevertheless, I will order the LEDs

yes, you should have a dimmer toggle switch (two total) on the left side of steering wheel lower dash . It dims the dash/instrument panel, not by much however. If yours doesn't dim, it's either unplugged or has been modified. One of mine controls my rear worklight.

If you order the miniature wedge base bulbs (74-GHP3) make sure that you snip the wires on each side. The wires wrap around to meet each other on the opposite side. I installed mine and it melted the cable in 5 seconds. I have no idea why they would ship them with the wires wrapping around like that. Did you have this problem, Reese or did you have the foresight to snip them before installing? All 74x LED bulbs are like this.

Anyone know if the bulbs on the 94 and 95 are the same? If not- Reese- it'd be great to get together and compare bulbs.

Here is a picture of the stock bulbs I replaced in my '97 ST and SW. No issues at all. Are these the same in '94 and '95s?
Left to right is Speedo (it takes 2 bulbs); Fuel and Temp (one bulb each); Tach and heater and blower lights (one bulb each)

2 Fuel & Temp, WLED-G6
3 Tach and heater and blower lights, 74-GHP3
2 Speedo, B8.5D-G

The second photo is the 74-GHP3 that replaces the smallest bulb. It has an LED on each side and one on the top. Manimal, this is the one you mentioned cutting the wire. These done have any wires that I can see. It has a bead of lead on one end of each side that make the connection with the plug instead of a wire like on the stock bulbs. ???

I got the 74G for the dash. As you can see in the pic there is two wires on each side. Should be fine once snipped but I haven't done that yet. I got a little hesitant after i fried the cable. I have yet to replace the dash bulbs so I can't yet confirm the fit or what bulbs are stock.

I also got the WLED-xLX for the side markers (amber in front and red in rear). Really bright LEDs. I'm very happy with those.
