Any long term reports from you guys on this little project?

Has anyone done this to a '94? Wondering what the right size/best source is before I tear my dash apart.

Also, check this out. The guy is awesome, but he implies that the bulbs are all the same.

I did this upgrade. It does make your dials brighter but then also it makes it glaringly obvious how poorly these stock dials transmits the light even though its brighter. After the upgrade I ended up getting all new VDO dials with LEDs. The VDO dials have a lit needle on the speedo and is designed to be illuminated much better. It's the difference between a short term fix and a long term fix.

Not sure I understand what needs to be snipped. Did these fit without widening the hole?

The VDOs fit if you get the correct size.

Some of the dash bulbs from Superbrightleds have wires bent over and around the other side so that there is two wires (+) and (-) on both sides. If you don't trim them short so that there is one (+) on one side and one (-) on the other you will short and melt the cable. I found out the hard way. No idea why on earth they would ship the bulbs like that. I have spares that I can take a picture of if you need it.

The temp, tach, fuel, and speedo all use the same bulb correct?

So no widening of bulb hole?

I was told different years have different bulbs. A 95 (mine) is not the same as a 94. I would have to go back and check again but I think speedo uses two bulbs and they are different from the temp, tach and fuel.

I didn't have to widen anything. Drop in replacement.

The first two pix show the 74-G bulb. As you can see the + wire wraps around to the other side and so does the - wire on the other side. 2nd picture you can see them both bent out. The 74, 74HP and Speedo bulbs are all like that. There is only supposed to be one + wire on one side and one - wire on the other side. If you leave them as is you will fry your wire.

The last two pictures show the back of the VDO speedo with bulb socket, standard bulb and LED bulb. The LED fits without modification (except you have to snip the wire). The last image shows the smaller gauges with the 74HP-G bulbs and the standard bulb. The stock speedo and gauges uses the same bulbs as the VDO.

Any idea how the "74-G" "74" and "74HP" relate to the size "T-10" mentioned in the youtube video?

Nope but you might find that on Superbrightleds.com.

That dude is Australian. Not sure if they use a different terminology over there.

Not sure I understand the wire thing.

Watch the video http://wn.com/Land_Rover_Defender_LE...ng_upgradethen look at the lights http://www.ledlight.com/1-2-watt-l-e...led-light.aspx

It doesn't look like the bushman ever cuts a wire down

Take a look at the picture in the 2nd link of the led bulb that you posted. The [+] wire of the led on one side wraps around to the other side of the bulb where the [-] is. The stock bulbs are not like that. You will short it if you insert it as is into the socket.

Why don't you call the bushman then and ask him?

Yes, he is correct about polarity. If you insert it and nothing happens then pull it out and flip it 180 (the wire that was facing down is now facing up. Now it should work.
