Dash Job-- Sorriest Prev Owner?

Been struggling with my dash refurb in my spare time on my 95 D90 NAS ST. Learned a lot about the prev Onwer and what not to do. Started off to tackle hacked up wiring from Winch, dual batts, roof rack lights, aftermktm stereo, etc.

Rust is present but manamgneable along the bulkhead line so good there. Found a ground wire behind the main elec buss and fuse panel melted thru. PO would just put in a bigger fuse- had 30 amp on fuel pump when I started work.

Thought while in it this deep I'd do the door hinges with SS hardware. See picture of what I found after peeling door panel off. Great Stuff is a name, not a testament to its us in concealed places of vehicles that see mud and water. By the way, the speakers were completley impacted with foam.

Will start soda blast and rust stop over the holdiays. Anyone need any pics from this level down to the firewall?

Is that the intention of putting that stuff in the doors? noise? or were they trying to get better speaker sound?

Now that looks professional! Effective and won't contribute to rust.

And if you still want to add foam glue it on in a sheet.

I got my new door door panels last night from Rovers North and they are pricey but they look thicker than the factory pieces.

Oh, to all those who are not satified with the heater I found several factory seals misaligned between the heater housing and the lower dash that functions as a duct/plenum. The only way to really line it up is install the heater box and THEN install the seal and flange behind the lower dash.

Also one of the two control cables on the left of the dash pod (the contoller, not the temp) is rigged in a way where the control flaps are on a single shaft and spring loaded to defrost only when the cables fails: and it fails due to rust quite readily.

I won't bother/discourage you with how deep you have to go to change that cable, find some rigid foam blocking and insert partially in one or both of the lower flaps to get some feet heat. js

61Rover, tell me which aspect(s) you need info on and I'll photo-doc it for you, at least on my year 95 and model D90 ST NAS.

I'm dealing wtith:
  • after market electrical and butchery,
  • heater blower motor seized
  • heater seals under hood and under dash
  • wipers and drive assembly (worm drive cable is pretty clever),
  • upper and lower dash with vents in lower dash,
  • door panels and
  • rust retlated to above areas.
